An award-winning playwright whose works have been produced throughout the country.    
Recent Los Angeles productions of full-length works include The Girl Who Would Be King
at Hollywood’s El Centro Theatre (named small venue Best Play of 2010 in Los Angeles
by Ventura County Star; Backstage Magazine critic’s pick for 2010 in Playwriting,
Production, Direction and Lead Performance; LA Weekly 2010 nominations for Best Comedy
Direction and Best Comedy Ensemble).
Cleo’s Girls received workshop performances at the Lex Theatre in Hollywood.
S.O.U.Ls, Inc. was selected for the Pittsburgh New Works Festival readings and was
recently produced at the Secret Rose Theatre in Los Angeles.
Garden of Ashes was first place winner in LA’s FirstStage One-Act Contest, was produced
in the 4th Annual Long Beach Popping Play Festival in October and in New York City’s
Winter Forum of new plays at the Looking Glass Theatre in December.
Her one-act comedy Taken for a Ride was a Moving Arts “Car Play” in LA. It was also
produced at Midway Festival of Plays in Kentucky, at San Diego’s North Park
Playwright Festival and at San Francisco’s Pan theater 10-Minute Play Festival. It
completed a three-week run at Hollywood’s Write Act Repertory in February 2012 and
aired as a radio play on Spokane Radio Theatre in Spokane, WA on March 25, 2012.
Jan’s 10-minute comedy Gayby’s Playdate was a winner in LA’s Lesbian & Gay Playwriting
Festival, was performed at the Women in The Arts Festival in Palm Springs, was
produced in the Festival of 10 at Suny, NY, Brockport and in the Minnesota Shorts
Festival in September 2011 where it tied for first place as Audience Favorite.
Crustacean Island was produced at 3Roses Players in LA and at New York’s 13th Street
Rep Company. Other New York City productions include The Daylight Zone, a winner in
the Chester Horn Short Play Festival.
She wrote book & lyrics for the musical comedy, Murder at the Palace, a comic version
of the Hamlet story, which was selected for a staged reading at Chicago’s Theatre
Building. She also wrote the book for Ridin’ With the Elves produced at Pasadena’s
Basement Theatre and book & lyrics for The Reluctant Christmas Tree produced in
Rochester, NY.

Jan holds an MA in English and an MFA in Theatre and has directed over fifty plays
and musicals across the country.

She is a proud member of Dramatists Guild, International Centre for Women Playwrights,
Fierce Backbone Theatre, LA Female Playwrights Initiative, an Ovation voter
with LA Stage Alliance, a vice-chair of Alliance of Los Angeles Playwrights and
a GLAAD LA Theatre Voter.
