Synopsis:
It's a bitter cold night in December 1776. On the banks of the Delaware River in Pennsylvania, Roto Rooster and Funky Donkey, a pair of con men, er, creatures, try in vain to unload their cache of goods at reduced prices. General George Washington happens by, in need of a boat to cross the Delaware and attack Trenton, and, of course, our two heroes do what they can to help. Unfortunately, they're not the best sailors, and everyone winds up soaked, which could prove disastrous. But quick thinking saves the day, and helps General Washington win a pivotal battle of the American Revolution. A light-hearted play for young children, but with sly jokes to amuse older children and adults, with sing-along and participatory songs and dances. Can be done with as few as seven performers, or can be expanded to include many more. Roles can be played by actors of any gender.
Notes:
The play was produced at the New Jersey State Museum, and toured schools in the Delaware Valley for 2 years. Performing rights controlled by the author.
