Setting: A bench on an empty stage
It's late evening and Janet and Paul are out searching for their dog, Bernice. She's been missing since noon. Janet thinks she may be trapped in a construction site. Paul won't go into the site because it's wet and muddy and he's wearing his Bruno Magli shoes. Janet's afraid to go in but she can't tell him why. Steve, their apartment manager comes along. He's sympathetic and worried about Bernice because he loves her, too.
