Genre:
Drama
Runtime:
60 - 80 mins
Cast:
6 male(s), 5 female(s), gender-flexible
Synopsis:
This is a highly theatrical depiction of the life of the "Jewish Saint," Edith Stein [later Teresa Benedicta a Cruce], a distinguished German philosopher from an Orthodox Jewish family, who converted to Catholicism after a mystical experience, and became a cloistered nun as the Nazis were coming to power, much to the consternation of her family. She died at Auschwitz. The play explores Edith's suffering over her betrayal of her mother's love by her choice of Jesus.
Notes:
Doubling of roles by both men and women is easily feasible, so the play could be done with 3 or 4 male actors. The sets are simple but a film screen is required.
