ALAP Member Production: HUNGER: In Bed With Roy Cohn by Joan Beber

From: 1/21/2012

To: 13/11/2012

“HUNGER: IN BED WITH ROY COHN”

LINDA TOLIVER, GARY GUIDINGER AND UNDERCOVER PRODUCTIONS PRESENT

THE WORLD PREMIERE OF

JOAN BEBER’S OFF-BEAT MUSICAL

Roy Cohn was instrumental in the prosecutions of many leaders of the American Communist Party and in the convictions of Ethel and Julius Rosenberg. After televised hearings exposed his malicious tactics in the Army/McCarthy hearings, Cohn was forced to resign. He was disbarred after a life of hubris and excess, and died of AIDS in 1986. The play is a fantastical interpretation of the key moments of Roy’s life.

In an out-of-body state and holding court on his bed, Roy Cohn is haunted by tragi-comic visions of his mother, his housekeeper, G. David Schine (his lover), Ronald Reagan, Barbara Walters, and the Rosenbergs. Only after his dancing inner child implores him to “come out,” are we able to see Roy as he might have been. Directed by Jules Aaron, choreography by Kay Cole, and original music by Max Kinberg.

ALAP Member Hollywood Fringe Festival: Gentle Passage by Paul Elliott with Ed Joswick

From: 6/14/2012

To: 6/28/2012

What happened in Joe's past  that he's blocked it out so completely?

When you open the door to someone's horrific past, you sometimes have to step through it in order to help.

Anna is an abrasive, no-nonsense , psychologist  forced to work on a small Alzheimer's research program, testing the effects of a new drug.  Her job is to interview patients and measure their cognitive powers.  It's a real step down for her and she hates everything about the project until she meets Joseph, an argumentative, sixty-five year old gay man who isn't yet ready to die.  Journeying back into his past and what he'd had to endure to just survive, forces Anna to finally step out of her own limiting universe to care for someone other than herself, but it may already be too late for both of them.
