by Gordon Blitz
Runtime: 70 - 80 mins
Cast: 1 female, 2 males
Synopsis:
This three-character play tells the
story of a homeless fifty-year-old gay man (Devon) and homeless thirty-year-old
lesbian (Melanie) who are sharing a tent. They are approached by a straight male
homeless sixteen-year-old (Joel). The
plot revolves around a friendship between Melanie and Devon. Each has to learn
how to live outdoors and cope with the environment. When Joel
enters their lives, Devon and Melanie become not only parents to Joel but also
students as Joel teaches Devon and Melanie about survival techniques. Joel, Devon and Melanie
will learn how to benefit from intergenerational relationships and how to
create a family not connected by blood. Toward the end of the play, Devon, Melanie and
Joel are able to have an action plan to lift themselves out of homelessness by
their newly formed bonds. The last scene takes place on Thanksgiving where each
of the characters reveal what they are thankful for.
